Panel Moderator: Suhail Abualsameed

Suhail_.jpgSuhail Abualsameed, an immigrant to Canada from his native Jordan, is a community worker, public speaker, researcher, designer and human rights advocate. Suhail has been working with refugee and immigrant youth, The LGBT community and Muslim communities. Most recently, Suhail joined the White Ribbon Campaign managing gender based violence prevention projects in Africa, East Asia and the US. With a background in architecture and an extensive travel history, Suhail speaks at universities, high schools, conferences and other public forums around the country and internationally, on issues of identity, human rights, immigration, and youth issues and the social determinants of health.

Omar Kamal


Omar is a revenue audit specialist at the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board. Throughout his 12-year career in workplace insurance, he has held positions in policy advising, project management and process engineering. In 2010, Omar co-founded Zenporium Ltd, a business that specializes in the design and construction of furniture using environmentally-sustainable wood materials. In 2011, he implemented new standards for the certification of raw materials, ensuring that wood materials used in furniture construction are reclaimed, salvaged or responsibly-harvested. Omar holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Ryerson University and a Masters Certificate in Project Management from York University's Schulich school of business.

Juju Katib


After completing her bachelor degree in English literature, Juju started her own Language school for adults in Abu Dhabi, UAE. After moving to Canada, she established her own event management and production company, Eventco. She is alsoone of the founders of Canada Arab Chamber of Commerce (CanACC); an independent; non-political and non-religious institution structured to serve as a diverse network for Arab and Canadian businesses through improved trade and commerce, in and outside of Canada. Juju proudly serves as the Executive Director of the Chamber. Furthermore, she is the founding editor of CanACC printed magazine; CONNECT which promotes communication and contributes to the evolution and growth of our diverse community in the fields of business, government relations, health and education and community excellence.

Juju established the Arab Canadian Trade Show and Awards Gala.  In January 2011, she envisioned an event which would bring Arab and non-Arab Canadian Businesses together. With overwhelming success, the 1st annual tradeshow and gala was held in the fall of 2011, followed by the 2nd annual in the fall of 2012. Considering the economic development and social awareness that such an event brings to our community, Juju is taking the gala to a greater level and she is preparing for the 1st Annual CanACC Excellence Awards Dinner Gala which will take place on October 5th of this year, in the city of Mississauga. 

Noura Sakkijha

Co-founder and CEO of Mejuri - the first crowdsourced fine jewelry company in the world. Noura holds an industrial engineering degree from the University of Jordan and an MBA from Ryerson University. After working in the corporate world as an internal consultant for four years, she decided to start Mejuri with two other co-founders. Nour has presented Mejuri at several start up competitions and successfully won at the following competitions: 2012 Slaight Business Plan Competition, 2013 Toronto International Start up Festival and theOntario Center of Excellence award for young entrepreneurs. The company was featured in several publications including CityNews. Noura was also selected by the Consulate of Canada in San Francisco to attend the 2013Techwomen Canada Conference. She recently was appointed as a board member in Goodwill Toronto.


Hasan Makansi: 


Hasan Makansi is widely acknowledged as a business expert within the corporate circles of the Middle East. He has spearheaded a series of entrepreneurial endeavors and contributed to the growth of several existing ventures. Recently, he was involved as a partner in the international business catalyst; Potential, where he developed innovative business programs and platforms aimed at supporting the growth of Startups, SMEs, and established organizations. His other entrepreneurial ventures include The Cellution; a boutique consultancy and business solutions entity which counts some of the most reputed global and regional brands among its list of clientele, including Dubai SME, Dubai Properties, Victory Heights, and Carrefour.

Hasan’s most recent professional designation was Director of Partner Development at TECOM Investments of Dubai Holding where he is credited for establishing the Partner Development division and redefining the value proposition for the Free Zones concept in Dubai, which was a major factor in driving an exponential growth of its Flagship business entities in TECOM. During the early part of his career, Hasan worked with, where he played a key role in creating a pioneering online business model that established Bayt as the Middle East’s #1 Job Site. Hasan is a certified EFQM assessor, member of the Young Arab Leaders Top Talent Camp, and an advisor to a number of startups in the Middle East and North America.
