Wonderful Things Ahead
It pleases me to provide a mid-year update on what’s coming up at CAI in the coming months – and there’s plenty! From programs, to projects to research and policy work; here’s what you can expect to see.
Irshad, a structured mentorship program, that will guide and support qualified mentors as they are matched with mentees from a pool of young and/or new Canadian Arabs. Mentorships will improve career chances and engage mentees in community work. Irshad will be part of CAI Academy.
PCAN, the Professional Canadian Arab Network, a program that will bring together and empower Canadian Arabs through professional development, philanthropy, guidance and networking opportunities.
On the Research front, a national, three-year research effort to map out the particulars of Canadian Arab life, its levels of integration, civic engagement, challenges faced, and successes and opportunities. In partnership with the University of Waterloo.
In Supporting the Settlement of Syrian Newcomers, CAI is undertaking a number of initiatives, including:
- Research to identify pain points and potential solutions, and facilitation and capacity-building within the settlement sector. In partnership with Ryerson University
- A media anti-discrimination campaign for protecting Syrian refugees, in partnership with the Ontario Human Rights Commission, OCASI and a number of NGOs
- A symposium with the Aga Khan Museum on pluralism in post-conflict Syria
- A soccer match hosting 1,500 Syrian refugees as guests, in partnership with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment
On the Policy front, CAI will be producing policy recommendations on topics that include: A diplomatic role for Canada following the end of its military operations in Syria; the engagement of Canadian Arab youth; Canadian support for Tunisian democracy; the Syrian refugee settlement experience; and the protection of Canadians abroad.
And on October 16, CAI supporters will be able to participate in the 2016 Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon under the CAI banner! The effort will help raise funds for CAI Academy.
Stay tuned for more details as these activities unfold.
And remember – CAI supporters are the best-of-the-best! To become one of them, just drop me a line and I’ll be happy to welcome you to the family.
A wonderful summer to all!
