COVID-19 Community Collective Series

This joint-partnership between the Canadian Arab Institute (CAI), the Arab Community Centre of Toronto (ACCT), Professional Canadian Arab Network (PCAN), and Yalla! Let’s Talk (YLT) aims to bring together a series of online interactive workshops in response to the changing circumstances and foreseen uncertainties surrounding COVID-19.

CAI will lead the coordination effort for online series, mainly made-up of four online panels that will inform and engage the Arab community in Canada about the developing government policy announcements and how they will impact the community in areas related to: business operations, employment, families, youth and students.

This collective effort also aims to better understand the community’s challenges and needs during these unprecedented times. It is intended to keep the community well-informed, connected and supported using the special creative and interactive programming provided across all partner organizations.

Syrian born Arab Entrepreneur launches Tech 4 Learning Fundraising Campaign

During these tough and unprecedented times, there are millions in need of different support programs. The government in their capacity is trying to alleviate the situation, however cannot do it all on their own, not in a timely manner to say the least.

Al Aroud, a newcomer to Canada and Patron of the Canada Arab Business Council (CABC), has recently launched the Tech 4 Learning fundraising campaign through Venture X Canada in partnership with the Peel District School Board (PDSB) and Toronto Foundation. The Tech 4 Learning fundraising campaign is aimed at helping students and families in need who don’t have access to a computing device to support their learning from home, since school boards across Ontario begin distance learning.

A recent estimate by PDSB indicates that there are at least 10,000 students in the Peel Region who lack a computing device and/or an internet connection. Venture X Canada is donating 1000 but still has 9000 to go, and urgently needs your support.

There are two ways you can help:

1. Donate working computing devices. Venture X will pick up all the devices so no one has to leave their home.

2. Donate money into the fund set up by Toronto Foundation. Toronto Foundation is the official charity partner that will receive all the monetary donations and ensure that the funds are granted to PDSB.
