Canadian Arab Institute Partners With Ontario Science Centre

In Presenting Sultans of Science: 1000 Years of Knowledge Rediscovered

TORONTO, March 7, 2014 – The Canadian Arab Institute is a proud community partner of the Ontario Science Centre in presenting an enhanced Sultans of Science: 1000 Years of Knowledge Rediscovered¸ which will be on display at the Ontario Science Centre from March 7 to June 7, 2014.

"This exhibit is a magnificent retelling of the history of scientific and technological  innovation and achievement during the Golden Age of Islamic Science," said CAI president Raja Khouri.  "Many Canadians are unaware of this crucial period in human advancement upon which the European Renaissance was based.  They think that's when scientific discovery started."

The exhibit, which was first presented to great acclaim by the Ontario Science Centre in 2009, returns with significant enrichments, such as a four-metre replica of Al-Jazari’s Musical Boat, featuring a mechanical "robot band" with dancing musicians, as well as many other new, fascinating items.

In addition to helping educate Canadians about the history of science in a part of the world they may not be aware was home to great scientific discoveries, the exhibit is also a great opportunity for Canadians of Arab descent or of the Muslim faith to become better acquainted with an important part of their heritage and culture.

"For Canadian Arabs who were born or grew up in this country this is indeed a rare opportunity to reconnect with a significant part of their proud heritage that highlights the role the Islamic Civilization played in the development of technologies we enjoy today," Khouri added.

The Canadian Arab Institute encourages our communities in southern Ontario to take full advantage of this unique exhibit, and to bring their families and friends to a day of delightful discovery and enjoyment.
